Tree Transplant

My husband has hoarding tendencies. Nothing like you see on that TLC show, but more like a cross between American Pickers and Hoarders. This has come in useful and sometimes can get down right annoying. It is downright annoying when he has to stop at anything on the side of the road with a FREE sign on it and useful in that he has salvaged many building materials and useful things for the island property. The entire mini cabin, minus a few odds (decking, skylight, screws and concrete were the only purchases) was built from salvaged building materials. He will knock on the door of an old house that is about to be demolished and ask if he can go through and see if there is anything he can save.

Well, his salvaging tendencies spilled over to landscaping last weekend when the job site he was working at was looking to get rid of a Japanese Maple tree from the yard. He asked if he could have it, they said no problem. Now the issue was getting a pretty decent sized tree over to the island. Islanders that know him, and know of all the logging he did on the property shake their heads in wonderment. Here is a man who has cut almost every tree down (and used all the wood in the process) on the property and now is transporting trees over from the mainland!!?? He got quite a few looks on the docks and lots of people taking pictures, cause as you can see for yourself, it was quite a site to see. After spending the afternoon getting the tree over he forgot to take a picture of it planted on the property!!! I sent him back during the week so he could get a picture and show me!  Next up, a Teddy Bear Magnolia tree that has also come available. Yes, we may be crazy, but we will have a nicely landscaped yard!

The tree getting moved

Getting it out of the groud with a pully - look at that root ball!

Going to it's new home

Where did the boat go???

Planted - blocks neighbours outhouse!

Next up - blocking the neighbours green water tanks!
